The Humane Society of St. Joseph and Buchanan County Missouri was incorporated in 1890 and reincorporated in 1901.
The object of the society at that time read as follows:
“The objects of this society shall be and are, by all lawful means to aid in protecting children and preventing cruelty thereto, and in preventing cruelty to animals, and in promoting humane sentiments among all classes of persons; also the care or protection of abandoned, ill-treated and friendless children.”
When more agencies came into being as champions for the protection of children, many organizations with dual purposes, such as ours, turned their focus to the welfare of animals.
Thus the purpose of the society was amended as follows:
The Humane Society of St. Joseph and Buchanan County Missouri is a private, not-for-profit corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. We are not affiliated with, nor do we receive funding from any other humane organizations. We do not receive funding from state, county, federal or municipal sources. We are supported solely by membership dues, bequests, contributions and fund-raising events.
All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
